The SoR Reps’ Learning Fund (Bryan Macey Scholarship)
In memory of a much loved former colleague, the Society has a Reps’ Learning Fund for accredited Representatives who wish to enhance their learning and skills - also known as the Bryan Macey Scholarship.
How much money is available?
There is up £2000 available towards an ACAS workplace mediation course in your local area.
The five-day course will give the winning rep the skills and strategies he or she needs to successfully mediate in their own workplace.
More details on the course can be found here.
Do I qualify?
Applications are invited from accredited IR, H&S and UL reps who:
• Have already completed an SoR reps induction course;
• Have a track record of being an active rep; and
• Can describe how the course will benefit both themselves and the SoR.
How and when do I apply?
You can apply by either downloading the application form at the bottom of this page or by following the link below.
Applications close on 25 August 2017, with the winner selected in early September.
What makes a successful application?
Most of the questions on the application are purely factual. The final question, however, will be comparatively judged by the panel to determine the winner of the award.
The question requires the applicant to outline why they have chosen the course(s) they wish to attend, and how it will benefit others, in no more than 500 words.
For example, an applicant may say that they will use the skills gained from the course in order to better help them handle grievances and disciplinaries, or to offer their services to their employer as an internal mediator or maybe help make a career change into working for a trade union.
What counts on the application is a well thought out argument that course attendance will make a real difference to their abilities in being a rep or making career advancement either in or outside of radiography. All applications will be judged on attention to detail such as correct spelling, punctuation and grammar.
