Background

Twin sisters Muriel and Noreen Chesney were famous in the radiography world. Muriel passed away, aged 89 years of age in 2010 and Noreen, 93 years of age in 2014.

Joint authors of several textbooks and papers, experienced and very well respected teachers of Radiography, they were both enthusiastic supporters of The International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists and their association with Radiography carried on long into retirement. Muriel and Noreen were superintendent teachers in the Midlands region; Muriel at Birmingham and Noreen at Coventry and Warwick, and it is with that in mind Midlands Region are launching a student award in memory of their outstanding contribution to radiography.

Award

Nominations are encouraged from SoR members to award undergraduate student/apprentice members of the SoR who are undertaking their practical training within the Midlands region and have gone above and beyond normal standards or consistently demonstrated their understanding of patient care / enhancing patient experience.

The Midlands Region Chesney Award of a certificate and £100 and will be presented to recognise the recipient's exemplary patient care. This may be an example of a student going above and beyond normal standards or a student who has consistently demonstrated their understanding of patient care and / or enhancing patient experience.

The award has been running for a few years and is open to any of our undergraduate students or apprentices who are members of The Society of Radiographers and whose clinical placement base is within the Midlands Region.

Nominations can be made by any SoR member by completing the nomination form below before the deadline of 31st August 2024. The winner will be announced at the MRC Region AGM in December.
