Invitation to World Radiography Day

A message to all NHS Trust chief executives and board members
Dear Colleague,
The radiography workforces both in diagnostic imaging and in radiation therapy are, as I am sure you will agree, absolutely central to modern healthcare. Both disciplines find themselves in key performance areas in reducing patient waiting times and driving up standards of care particularly with regards to cancer.
I am sure that you value the radiographers within your organisation extremely highly and I am writing to let you know about World Radiography Day 2009 in the hope that you might use the opportunity presented to make a visit to departments in your organisation to learn a little about the vital work of radiographers and to encourage the staff as they mark what is a very important anniversary for us each year.
World Radiography Day is on 8 November and marks the anniversary of the discovery of x-rays in 1895. The Society and College of Radiographers supports the worldwide effort to highlight World Radiography Day through events organised by local members and through making efforts at a national level to raise the profile of the profession and the services that our members offer. Some departments make use of free resources provided by the professional association to create displays, hold open days or simply to hand out information to patients and visitors. Whether or not the departments in your hospital are considering specific events close to 8 November, I am sure that they would appreciate a visit from you or another of the Board. I hope that you will consider putting aside an hour or two in your diary in November for this purpose.
Many thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope that you will take part in a small way in the celebrations of World Radiography Day.
Yours faithfully
Richard Evans
