The HCPC Standards of Proficiency for diagnostic radiographers have always required an understanding of the physical principles of MRI. The updated standards which came into effect in September 2023 now require undergraduates to be able to perform standard magnetic resonance imaging procedures.
The Society of Radiographers (SoR) supports radiographers in identifying opportunities that benefit the service and service users through role development. Diversifying and expanding radiographers’ practice within clinical imaging and radiotherapy is actively encouraged. It is essential that development is underpinned by appropriate education and training to support the safe delivery of professional practice.

College of Radiographers approved postgraduate qualifications are available to view here . The SoR expects that where available and in relation to your job role and personal development that radiographers undertake the college approved programmes.
A national e-learning programme for MRI safety is freely available to NHS staff and academic institutions. Access for others is available via the e -integrity platform
