Professional practice in MRI

Professional advice on the safety of patients and others entering the MRI environment

MRI is a mainstream diagnostic investigation with considerable clinical applications across many disease and patient pathways. The role of the radiographer practitioner in MRI encompasses a great deal more than purely image acquisition.  The high static magnetic fields used in MRI present significant safety considerations and require extensive knowledge, understanding and responsibilities related to MRI safety.  This knowledge ensures the safety of patients and others entering the MR environment.

The Society of Radiographers as the professional body for the radiographic workforce is supportive of the development of the workforce at all levels. The role of the radiographic workforce in MRI is crucial in ensuring high quality and safe services for patients.
