Experienced sonographers and radiographers can get involved with enhancing the quality of service provision and/or education, or provide expert opinion on behalf of the court, as an expert witness.
All provide excellent CPD opportunities, which can be reflected in your portfolio of evidence and can be used as evidence of external professional involvement in promotion panels, accreditation as an advanced or consultant practitioner, or simply to enhance your own knowledge and skills and meet other people within the professions.
- UKAS (the United Kingdom Accreditation Service) are recruiting radiographers and sonographers with at least four years’ experience in ultrasound or diagnostic imaging to be independent technical assessors. In depth training is provided to prepare you for the role. Each assessment consists of a 1-2 day(s) on site visit every other year and annually 0.5-1 day reviewing evidence remotely via a web-based tool. The web based work can be spread over a couple of weeks. Contact Ann Pindar for further information about the role. To download an independent technical assessor application pack, please visit the UKAS website careers page.
- CASE (The Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education) are looking for accreditors from academic and clinical backgrounds in all areas of ultrasound practice. The role involves providing support and peer review of education provision in the UK and Ireland. Training is provided before becoming a shadow accreditor when you learn more about the documentation review and accreditation processes from an experienced lead accreditor and a co-accreditor. You can then progress to becoming a co-accreditor and attend validation events with an experienced lead accreditor. At all stages, your experience and input is a valuable part of the peer review process. Email for further information about the role. For an informal chat, please contact Gill Harrison [email protected] or a CASE committee member.
- Expert witness work is independent self-employed paid work, undertaken by sonographers or radiographers with extensive experience in a specific clinical area. Find out more about the CoR Expert Witness List. In the July issue of Synergy News there will be details of an expert witness study day in October.
