The Advancing Practice in Radiography Special Interest Group launched this year at the UKIO conference, seeking to support and inform trainees and experienced practitioners.

This special interest group (SIG) will be hosted on Synapse platform with the aim of developing a community of practice across radiography professions.

SIGs are independent groups of members and non-members who are supported by the Society of Radiographers through promotion on its website. They promote greater understanding of radiography as a whole, including supporting best practice.

'Support and encouragement'

The SIG is intended to provide support to share and develop practice.

A spokesperson for the Advancing Practice in Radiography (AP-RAD) SIG explained practitioners may feel like they are in “silo”.

They said: “This group aims to provide peer support and encouragement. Discussion is encouraged to stimulate and generate safe and high-quality patient services that meet current legislative requirements facilitated by several experts in their field, to support discussion and if required escalate questions and queries.”

Shared vision

Content on the platform is provided by members and will be updated as publications release.

Members are encouraged to share publications and research with the group facilitators for sharing.

Additionally, informal networking meetings will held to allow for safe discussion on topics guided by attendees.

Invited speakers may trend to present on requested topics.

Networking meetings will be held online on 7 October, 8 January and 7 May at 7-8pm.

The AP-RAD SIG will collaborate with the NHS Futures platform group, where the groups have the same shared vision to support the development of advancing practice in radiography.
