Nominations open for Rep of the Year

The SoR Rep of the Year Awards have opened for nominations, with winning members due to be recognised at the Annual Delegates Conference on 28-30 April.

Members who know an SoR rep making an outstanding contribution to the profession are being urged to “shine a spotlight” on their work by nominating them for a Rep of the Year award before 14 February.

Doing so will help the SoR to celebrate individuals whose efforts are “positively transforming” radiography departments, supporting their colleagues, and shaping the future of the profession.

'Selfless and dedicated work'

The Rep of the Year Awards honour individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the radiography profession, as an accredited SoR Health and Safety, Industrial Relations, or Union Learning representative. The award was not celebrated in 2024, so the Rep of the Year 2024 will be crowned at the 2025 Annual Delegates Conference. 

Richard Evans, CEO of the SoR, said: “The network of SoR members that have been elected and accredited as representatives of the union is a tremendous benefit for all of our members. Our reps make the SoR present in the majority of workplaces across the UK and of course are there to ensure that our members have advice, support and a voice at work.

“I hope that the selfless and dedicated work of SoR reps will be recognised once again in this year’s Rep of the Year Awards. Please consider nominating your colleagues who do this valuable work.”

Prizes and recognition

Tom Welton, president of the SoR, said: "I won UK rep of the year 2018. Being a rep is such a positive role to undertake. You have an ability to sculpt and improve the working environment around you by working with members, managers, higher management, and other unions.

"In a UK where delivering healthcare is difficult. Finding leaders willing to stand up and support the workforce through partnership working is paramount to ensuring safety improvements. This is your opportunity to show your local rep that you are thankful for their work, for their leadership and their efforts."

Available awards include “Regional Rep of the Year”, granted to one winner per region or country, with winning nominees receiving £100.

Also celebrated will be “UK Rep of the Year”, one overall winner selected from the regional winners who will receive an additional £250.

Following a motion put forth by members, the rep awards will now be celebrated at the Annual Delegates Conference, taking place 28-30 April 2025 in London.

Any current, SoR-accredited representative based in the UK is eligible for nomination. Both the person making the nomination and the individual being nominated should be current members. Nominations must be made by a colleague or peer – self-nominations will not be accepted.
