A multidisciplinary conference on breast diagnostics and care is due to be held in Bournemouth this year, with opportunities to learn more about the latest technologies.

The Symposium Mammographicum will take place at the Bournemouth International Centre from 9-11 July, offering attendees the chance to attend large technical exhibitions and workshops focusing on breast imaging technology.

Radiographers, radiologists, physicists, mammographers, breast care nurses, breast surgeons, practitioners, imaging managers, clinical specialists, technologists, breast clinicians and many other disciplines have been invited to examine topics at the forefront of mammography.

Inequalities and diversity

This year’s programme will include presentations, interactive discussions and expert debates, addressing key clinical and technical challenges in breast screening and diagnosis.

The theme for 2025 focuses on inequalities and diversity in breast imaging services, ensuring equitable access and outcomes for all, as well as the “urgent need” for sustainability in breast imaging.

Along with a diverse range of hands-on workshops, delegates can engage in unique CPD opportunities, enhancing their skills through practical learning.

A spokesperson for the conference said: "Symposium Mammographicum is a key event in the national and international conference calendar for those interested in breast diagnosis and care. While remaining rooted in the study of sophisticated and high-quality breast imaging technologies, the conference has blossomed to embrace all aspects of the breast patient pathway. This conference offers an outstanding opportunity to further your development as an outward-looking breast care professional."

'Stimulate and support research'

The welcome reception is open to all attendees and will take place on Wednesday 9 July. The reception will take place in the exhibition between 6pm – 7pm. The conference dinner will take place at the Bournemouth Pavilion Ballroom and start with a welcome drink from 7.30pm for an 8pm dinner.

An early morning fun run or walk will take place along Bournemouth seafront on Thursday 10 July at 7.45am.

Symposium Mammographicum is a registered charity founded in 1979. Its principal aims are ‘to stimulate and support research and disseminate knowledge about the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast disease’.

The charity organises a conference, complemented by a technical exhibition and workshops, usually over a three day period. The last event was held at the SEC in Glasgow, Scotland between the 21 and 23 June 2023.

Symposium Mammographicum aims to play a leading national and international role in advancing technological and clinical sciences related to breast imaging, thereby improving patient care. These aims will be achieved through disseminating knowledge, sharing and promoting best practice, fostering debate and collaboration, encouraging and supporting research, and by widening participation in such activities.
