We remember Stephen Lawrence on the 28th anniversary of his brutal, racially motivated murder on 22nd April 1993.
His senseless death led to the MacPherson report in 1997, a landmark report uncovering institutional racism within the Metropolitan Police Force and Stephen’s families long fight for justice.
To this day just two of the five people responsible for Stephens’ death have been prosecuted and convicted in 2012.
Equalise, the SoR’s Equality and Diversity Network, greatly admires the dignified campaigning of Stephen’s family, particularly his mother, Baroness Doreen Lawrence, whose refusal to give up her fight has moved the nation and changed laws.
Baroness Lawrence set up first a trust in Stephen’s name and then the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation to continue driving for change.
Please take a few minutes to read Stephen’s story on the foundation website.
