SoR members working in a practice educator role can attend an online writing retreat to get support in applying to the CoR Practice Educator Accreditation Scheme.
Any radiographers taking a leading role in facilitating practice-based learning in clinical imaging and oncology have the opportunity to be recognised and developed through the CoR Practice Educator Accreditation Scheme (PEAS).
This CoR writing retreat will allow attendees to understand PEAS requirements, reflect on their practice and develop a plan for their application, and provide an opportunity for dedicated time and support to begin writing specific components of their application.
In 2022 the CoR published its Education and Career Framework (ECF) 4th edition, which includes the role of the practice educator both in recognition of the importance of the role and in its promotion.
The practice educator is likely to hold overall responsibility for signing off competency and assessment criteria, based upon the standards produced by the education provider and relevant professional body; although it is recognised that local models of delivery and assessment will apply.
Generally, it is the practice educator who holds overall responsibility for ensuring that the contributing elements of a practice education placement cover all relevant learning outcomes (Health and Care Professions, 2016).
It is recommended that practice educators are formally educated and trained for their role, and are accredited by the College of Radiographers (CoR 2022). The PEAS scheme therefore aligns with the CoR ECF.
A spokesperson for the SoR said: “PEAS is your opportunity to gain professional recognition for your expertise in facilitating practice-based learning in radiography education. It also means that your teaching practices align with the standards set by CoR and the Health and Care Professions.
“To help you achieve PEAS accreditation, we’re delivering an online writing retreat which will offer you advice and guidance in preparing your application.”
Successful applicants will receive a certificate in acknowledgement of their accreditation status, downloadable from CPD Now, containing a digital QR badge in reference to their achievement.
Interested members should access CPD Now and start thinking about how they meet the 12 PEAS learning outcomes, collate relevant material in readiness for completing their application and any additional documentation that may help (such as study days or presentations), and read up on reflection models.
This session is being facilitated by Dr Laura Charlesworth and Kathryn Williamson, professional officers for Education and Accreditation at the CoR.
The day’s programme includes:
Once a completed application is submitted and if awarded, CoR PEAS accreditation lasts five years.
