Help make a difference - join the SoR Equalise network

Opportunities have arisen for members to join the network, which promotes equality, diversity and inclusion across radiography

A number of roles within the SoR’s Equalise network,which works to improve equality, diversity and inclusion, have become available for member applications.

In spring 2022, an external Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Audit of the SoR identified areas for growth, leading to recommendations for fostering inclusivity, combating discrimination and promoting belonging.

As part of the SoR’s two-year plan, the society is expanding the Equalise Networks to ensure diverse voices are heard across all SoR and CoR activities.

Leadership and advocacy

The roles are currently being recruited for are:

  • Chair and Deputy Chair for the Equalise Race Group (applicants must identify as ethnically diverse).
  • Social Media Lead for the Equalise Race Group (applicants must identify as ethnically diverse). 
  • Deputy Chair for the LGBTQI+ Group (applicants must identify as LGBTQI+).

These roles require around two days annually, including quarterly meetings of the Joint Equalities Committee. No prior leadership experience is necessary; the SoR will provide coaching and support to help you succeed.

Taking on the role of Chair or Deputy Chair for an Equalise group offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership and advocacy skills. 

Leading change and expanding networks

Successful applicants will be able to:

  • Lead Positive Change: you will be at the forefront of influencing DEIB strategies and initiatives within SoR | CoR, ensuring that the concerns and needs of diverse members are addressed.
  • Expand Your Network: This role provides a platform to work closely with a variety of members, stakeholders, and SoR | CoR leadership, building valuable professional relationships.
  • Develop Leadership Skills: chairing a network group will help hone your leadership abilities, improve facilitation skills, and enhance your capacity to lead diverse teams.
  • Receive Coaching and Support: we are committed to your development and will provide coaching support to help you succeed in the role, ensuring you feel equipped to chair the group and contribute meaningfully to the Joint Equalities Committee.
  • Receive Training: you will have access to relevant training opportunities to further your skills and knowledge, enabling you to effectively lead and contribute to strategic initiatives.
  • Be Part of a Larger Mission: by leading an Equalise group, you will contribute to shaping a fairer, more inclusive profession that supports every member.

Equalise as a network aims to provide a support mechanism for members on equality and diversity issues, campaign/lobby on issues of concern for members, provide advice and support for members in the workplace and to become more proactive in the Society and promote equality in the workplace.

Open to all SoR members and students with a passion for equality and diversity issues, Equalise supports equal rights for all members regardless of race, religion, age, sexual orientation, disability and belief.

Interested members should submit their application by noon on Friday 3 January 2025 using the online form.

Once all submissions have been reviewed, the SoR will arrange introductory calls with those interested and begin the nomination process.
