The Society of Radiographers is set to hold an inaugural Schwartz Round event in conjunction with its student network, to help members tackle emotional and difficult healthcare topics in a supportive environment.
The free online event - entitled 'A Fish Out of Water' - will take place on 11 November from 7pm to 8:30pm. It is organised by Nichola Jamison, the SoR's students and new professionals officer.
Only SoR student and apprentice members are permitted to attend the event.
This Schwartz Round event was commissioned by the SoR. The commission was partly funded by the Workforce Training and Education Directorate NHS England.
The SoR is now officially the first professional body to obtain a Schwartz Round License from the Point of Care Foundation, a charity that works to humanise health and social care. The Point of Care Foundation engages with both patients and healthcare staff to improve their experiences and provide support.
What is a Schwartz Round?
A Schwartz Round is a meeting where attendees are encouraged to discuss the emotional and social aspects of working in the healthcare sector.
The aim of a Schwartz Round is not to address grievances, but to explore the inherent challenges and rewards of working in the healthcare sector. This is to emphasise the need for support for healthcare workers, so they can show compassion in turn to patients.
A Schwartz Round is a structured event with dedicated roles. A facilitator, a clinical lead, a steering group and an administrator are involved in running a Schwartz Round. Training to become an administrator or facilitator happens periodically.
