SoR members encouraged to access CAHPR events

The Community for Allied Health Professionals Research is running a series of research events available for radiographers and other AHPs

The Community for Allied Health Professionals Research has released a series of events, with members of the Society of Radiographers being encouraged to attend.

These events are designed to support AHPs in approaching their doctoral viva, writing a conference abstract and developing their career in research.

Events will run throughout the end of January until 26 March.

Dr Tracy O'Regan, professional officer for clinical imaging and research, said: "The events and support provided via CAHPR are an excellent inclusive approach to growing the AHP community. We encourage members to join, partner, and work with like-minded professionals to push forward this important aspect of our professional roles – ultimately improving patient care and outcomes."

Approaching the doctoral viva

Dr Hollie Hadwen and Professor Ruth Strudwick will give their perspectives about the doctoral viva online on 28 January, from 12.30-1.30pm.

Dr Hadwen has recently completed her DProf and will speak from the perspective of a doctoral candidate and Professor Strudwick has examined more than 10 doctoral candidates and will provide the examiner’s perspective.

Conversation café

An online drop in session facilitated by Dr Jen Pearson with no set agenda, just an opportunity to ask questions, discuss research and network.

Taking place on 26 February from 12.00-1.00pm, 11 March from 4.00-5.00pm, and 23 April from 12.00-1.00pm, interested parties can join online now.

How to write a conference abstract

On 26 February, the CAHPR and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) will be hosting a webinar on top tips for writing an effective conference abstract.

The interactive webinar will be facilitated by CSP’s Meredith Newman and hosted by CAHPR’s Dr Esther Williamsonwith guest speakers CAHPR’s Dr Nichola Gale and and the CSP’s Catherine Lawrence.

At the end of the session, the CSP will cover specific information for writing abstracts for the CSP conference (including abstract scoring criteria).

Steps to success in research

Three events will be taking place supporting radiographers and other AHPs to begin taking steps to success in a research career. The events are aimed at anyone who is interested in getting started in research or taking their clinical academic ambitions to the next level.

The first events will be taking place on Thursday 6 March, from 3.00-6.00pm at Bournemouth University; the second on Wednesday 19 March from 3.00-6.00pm at the University of Southampton; and the third on Wednesday 26 March from 1.00-4.00pm at Oasis Wellness Centre, Queen Alexandra Hospital.
