Recently qualified radiographer Laura Hawley has been presented with the Agfa Healthcare Student of the Year prize.
The academic staff at Canterbury Christ Church University in Kent chose Laura because she made an excellent contribution to the diagnostic radiography programme at the Medway Campus and to the profession. She was highly regarded amongst her tutors, fellow students and clinical staff.
Laura, a mature student, decided to change career from retail management as she wanted to be working in an environment which was more fulfilling and where her actions would benefit others. She was inspired by her sister who retrained for a career in pharmacy after being in the RAF.
“I felt many of my existing skills were transferable from my previous work in customer service,” explained Laura. Both the university staff and those at placement confirmed that Laura’s friendly, open manner helped her to build an excellent rapport with patients, peers and staff.
Laura has now secured her first post at Medway Maritime Hospital and says she is being given the opportunity to gain a wide variety of experience and particularly enjoys theatre working.
“I’m looking forward to continuing my professional development,” said Laura. “At this point I’m particularly interested in ultrasound imaging and nuclear medicine”.
Canterbury Christ Church University would like to wish her well in her future career and all those who recently qualified.
