Ahead of the University of Derby Graduation Ceremony this month, BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography graduates joined with their academic tutors at an award ceremony to celebrate their achievements.

The awards being presented were the Care and Compassion Awards for Derby, Nottingham and Leicester, Student Rep of the Year Award and the Emma Cartlidge Award.

Joanna Baker, who is now working at Royal Derby Hospital won the Care and Compassion Award (Derby).

Jenn Lowndes, who is also now at Royal Derby Hospital, scooped the Care and Compassion Award (Leicester).

The Care and Compassion Award (Nottingham) winner, Alex Rourke, thanked his tutors for their support. He is now working in Nottingham, splitting his time between Queens Medical Centre and the City Hospital.

The Student Rep of the Year winner was Saima Dalvi. This award recognised the positive, proactive, constructive approach Saima maintained in her role as student rep.

Programme leader, Alex Partner, commented: “We were privileged to be joined by Ann Cartlidge and her family who presented an award in memory of her daughter – Emma. The Emma Cartlidge Award recognises the achievement of students who have overcome challenging or adverse circumstances to successfully complete the programme.”

Efrem Weldehymanot won the award. He commuted daily throughout his degree from his home in Leeds, balancing studies with his family commitments. He took his final year elective placement at Pinderfields General Hospital in Wakefield and on completion was rewarded with a full-time position.

Congratulations to all of the winners!
