The first Rutherford Cancer Centres Scholarship has been awarded to Louise Sinden, a first year BSc radiotherapy and oncology student from the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol.

After submitting a short application and attending an interview, Louise’s commitment to the profession was made clear to panellists and she was chosen as the successful candidate.

Louise expressed her gratitude in winning, commenting, “I am over the moon to have won the first scholarship being offered by the Rutherford Cancer Centre.

“The money has alleviated all the worries I had about taking on the course as a mature student and will allow me to fully focus on becoming the best radiographer I can be”.

The panel were particularly impressed with the life changing decision she made to change careers and pursue her dreams.

Viv Gibbs, head of department for Allied Health Professions, commented, “The Rutherford Cancer Centres very generously offered to sponsor one of the students on our programme this year.

“All of the shortlisted applicants demonstrated their enthusiasm, dedication and drive to succeed, and the final decision was a difficult one to make. Louise, however, is a very worthy recipient of this award”.

UWE Bristol are looking forward to working with the Rutherford Cancer Centres to enhance the learning experience of all students.
