SoR wants to hear member views on pay award for radiographers in England

Radiographers are being asked to share their thoughts on latest pay offer via a consultation survey

Members of the Society of Radiographers are being urged to share their thoughts on the new pay award in England via a consultation survey.

On Thursday (8 August), eligible SoR members in England will have received an email requesting they indicate whether they believe the pay award is acceptable.

The Society is requesting that members check their emails and respond to the survey when they receive it in their inbox.

A funded mandate

NHS Agenda for Change (AfC) staff in England, including radiographers, have received an offer of a new pay increase of 5.5 per cent from 1 April 2024.

Additionally, Bands 8a and above would receive intermediate pay points.

Thanks to SoR campaigning, the pay award also includes a requirement for the UK government to issue the NHS Staff Council with a funded mandate to begin resolving outstanding concerns with the AfC structure.

Moreover, the Northern Ireland Executive and the Welsh government will support the issuance of this mandate and work with the Staff Council, their social partners and the UK government.

'A step in the right direction'

The Society of Radiographers’ UK Council has recommended acceptance of this award, as it is currently above inflation.

Leandre Archer, head of industrial relations for the SoR, said: “It signifies a step in the right direction towards pay restoration, whilst acknowledging that more investment is required to deal with the radiography workforce crisis.

“It is positive news that the Pay Review Body (PRB) and government have listened to the trade unions and acknowledge a review of pay and job evaluation under Agenda for Change is overdue and needs to commence.

“Government highlighted and recognised the cost of industrial action and its impact on waiting lists: in accepting the PRB recommendation they want to avoid a repeat of last year’s strike action.

“We will continue to pursue a commitment from the government to pay restoration and inflation proof pay awards for future years."

In the email, the Society is asking members to mark whether they believe the award to be acceptable or not by completing the consultation survey.

As an SoR member working in the NHS in England, please indicate if you believe the award to be acceptable or not by completing the consultation survey, sent via email.

This consultation will run from Thursday 8 August until 5pm on Tuesday 27 August.
