The Association of Healthcare Technology Providers for Imaging, Radiotherapy and Care (AXREM) has launched its IT manifesto, which outlines priorities for its Imaging IT Special Focus Group members.
AXREM is a UK trade association which represents suppliers of diagnostic medical imaging, radiotherapy, healthcare, IT and care equipment. A majority of diagnostic medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment installed in UK hospitals comes from AXREM members.
The Imaging IT group is made up of a number of companies that supply PACS, RIS, VR, Cloud and Hosted systems, as well as teleradiology services. The four-page manifesto details a number of priorities for the group, such as:
Cybersecurity
Streamlining workflows to optimise patient care
Pioneering accessibility and innovation
Advocating for supportive policies
Technology adoption/integration and innovation
Best practice and policy
In addition, the manifesto includes several calls to action. It encourages stakeholders within Imaging IT to partake in a common goal: advancing healthcare by adopting technology and innovation with a focus on AI, machine learning and cloud technologies.
“In the age of digital transformation, Imaging IT providers must uphold an unwavering commitment to cyber security, especially when implementing cloud solutions within the NHS,” reads the manifesto. “As custodians of sensitive patient data, we at AXREM recognise the paramount importance of ensuring robust security measures while simultaneously maintaining interoperability across systems.
“Our manifesto outlines our vision for safeguarding healthcare data in the NHS through comprehensive cyber security practices.”
The manifesto was launched on 2 April during an event at Bletchley Park. The document was authored by Chris Scarisbrick from Sectra, Saduf Ali-Drakesmith from Smart Reporting, Arron Edwards from Intelerad and Ahmed Adnan from Rosenfield.
“We are pleased to publish our manifesto which outlines the challenges faced by all healthcare IT providers and all NHS trusts and health boards,” said Bob Childe, AXREM Imaging IT convenor and CCO at Soliton IT. “We hope to work together to minimise the risks by sharing knowledge between us and adoption and innovation of new technologies.”
Sally Edgington, CEO of AXREM, praised the manifesto and said she hopes it reaches the relevant stakeholders.
“The Imaging IT group have worked really hard on this manifesto and they include some important calls to actions, which I hope we can reach out to the relevant stakeholders to help them be actioned and for improvements to be made.”
