Members of the Society of Radiographers are being encouraged to attend a study day focusing on the usage of AI for radiology reporting.
Due to be held on Tuesday 18 March at the Milner York Hotel in York, the event aims to support radiographers and reporting radiographers to learn more about the principles of AI.
Attendees will get the chance to understand how they might interact with AI in the future and identify features perceived as necessary for appropriate trust in these systems.
Radiographer and radiologist professions are currently going through a national workforce shortage – a shortage which may be ameliorated by the use of AI to support in reporting.
Using artificial intelligence could help minimise the backlog of unreported images, but modern AI is not well understood by human end-users.
This could have ethical implications, and impact human trust in these systems due to either over or under-reliance.
Tracy O’Regan, professional officer for clinical imaging and research at the SoR, said: “The study day will be a fabulous opportunity for radiographers, sonographers, and reporting radiographers to connect and explore developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
“The NHS England team at Northeast and Yorkshire are offering this free event to support staff to develop their knowledge and potential, ultimately to use AI to improve service experience and outcomes for patients and staff.
“The day will enable attendees who undertake a full cycle of CPD to meet and evidence a good range of CPD Now professional outcomes. The Health and Care Professions Council have requirements in the standards of proficiency that radiographers now undertake learning related to the concepts of AI and this will be a helpful way to work towards that standard.”
