The SoR is building on positive engagement with manager members through its recently launched network for managers with a new toolkit to help them tackle disciplinary processes fairly and safely.
Elaine Brooks, SoR Eastern Regional Officer and the Engaging Managers Network co-ordinator, said managers often did not receive the help and support they should expect from their HR departments or senior leaders.
"They have to deal with difficult emotional situations with limited help and guidance. This shouldn’t be the case but we know it is the reality for too many.”
Elaine said the toolkit would assist managers in navigating overly complicated hospital policies. "It is written to help guide and direct managers so that they can safely and fairly manage a process. As a union, we think this will not only be of huge benefit to managers but will inevitably improve the process for any member under investigation.
"The toolkit will facilitate our reps in supporting members at a local level. It has been developed in consultation with manager members and follows on from our Grievance toolkit which we launched last year. We will now be building further resources around the toolkits.
"The next toolkit by request from our manager members will provide guidance on the capability process. We will also look to add supplementary training in areas like handling conflict and difficult conversations which reps and managers will be able to access.”
