The SoR's executive director for professional policy Charlotte Beardmore has been awarded an honorary doctorate from St George’s, University of London.
Charlotte was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Science degree for services to radiography during a ceremony held on 24 July.
She received the award as part of the university’s graduation ceremony for its diagnostic and therapeutic radiography students.
Charlotte said she was “delighted” to accept the accolade, and expressed gratitude for her fellow awardees.
“I am delighted and honoured to be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from St Georges, University of London for services to radiography,” she said.
“This award means so much to me, and to be awarded this on the day both the diagnostic and therapeutic radiography students at St Georges had their degrees conferred, and fellow Allied Health Professionals, Tracy Nichols, CEO of the College of Paramedics and Preet Chandi, physiotherapist, army officer and explorer also received honorary doctorates, made this very special.”
Charlotte was awarded the honorary degree by Professor Jenny Higham, vice chancellor at St. George’s, Christine Swabey, chair of council at St George’s and Dr Marcus Jackson, associate professor and professional lead for diagnostic radiography at St. George’s.
“I really enjoy my career as a radiographer, having the opportunity to lead, support and influence the development of radiography practice in the UK and across Europe through my roles both within the Society and College of Radiographers and with the European Federation of Radiographer Societies,” Charlotte continued, going on to credit the support received by the Society and College of Radiographers.
“Throughout my career and to date, I continue to be supported by the excellent radiography workforce through our membership and by the team at the Society and College of Radiographers.“
“I thank them for this support, as I too thank my family.”
Dr Jackson said that the honorary doctorate represented Charlotte's influence and success in her radiography career.
"It was both an honour and a delight to present the citation for Charlotte's Honorary Doctor of Science award from St George's University of London," he said. "Charlotte stands as a beacon for radiography, and on behalf of radiographers, patients and carers everywhere. I extend our deepest gratitude for her unwavering dedication."
