The Student Radiographer Podcast has released its sixth episode online now, giving listeners an insight into what leadership can look like as a radiography learner.
Co-host Alice Denslow, 3rd year diagnostic radiography apprentice, is joined by guest Gill Harrison, professional officer for ultrasound and student leadership mentor at the SoR, for a discussion on the importance of leadership in radiography.
Alice and Gill also chat about their personal leadership journeys in their current roles, before contemplating wider leadership opportunities that may be available for radiography learners.
Alice said: "We wanted to do an episode focusing on leadership because it is something we can develop and embrace as radiography learners, and will be a core part of our future careers whether we realise it or not.
“For us, strong, authentic leadership is essential in healthcare for fostering teamwork, improving patient care and driving innovation. We also wanted to try to dispel the myth that leadership is a job title - you do not have to be a manager or in a senior position to be a leader – everyone can be a leader, including learners!
“This subject ties in well with the wider podcast vision to inform, empower, equip and encourage learners, to use their voices, and become leaders of their own journeys. It is also about encouraging learners to seek out further leadership opportunities that could develop professional practical leadership skills.”
Brought to you by the Society of Radiographers’ Student Network, The Student Radiographer Podcast aims to provide a forum to discuss the profession, wellbeing and offer advice and support to other students who are embarking on the journey to becoming a radiographer.
Prospective students as well as student radiographers from first through third year, whether diagnostic or therapeutic, full-time, part-time, apprentice, or anything in-between are encouraged to listen now, and send in their own questions or feedback.
