The SoR is encouraging members who are Allied Health Professions (AHPs) to take part in a survey that will help identify the most actionable carbon reduction methods for each AHP profession.
This survey - titled 'AHPs' Priorities for Sustainable Healthcare: Your Input Needed!' - is availablehere and closes on 28 March.
As part of the survey, AHPs are asked to provide information such as which professional group they are affiliated with and which area of the UK they live in. The goal is to source information from AHPs who can recognise opportunities for carbon reduction. All information given as part of the survey will be processed by the Office of the Chief Allied Health Professions' Officer (CAHPO).
Commenting on the survey,Laura Charlesworth, professional officer for education and accreditation at the CoR, said that spotting opportunities to reduce carbon emissions is of critical importance.
“We are delighted to be promoting this survey to capture important insights from the profession," she said. "Identifying actionable opportunities for carbon reduction is key to reducing the environmental impact of care.
“We would encourage all individuals with an interest and suggestions for priority actions to complete the survey.”
The SoR is supporting the rollout of the survey and holding a follow-up workshop to discuss its findings, which will take place in June.
The AHP Strategy for England (2022-2027) states that net zero practices must be integrated into all work carried out by AHPs. The NHS set a target of zero net emissions for care by 2040.
Next month, NHS England will kick off the 2025 edition of Greener AHP Week. The campaign will take place between 31 March and 4 April. Greener AHP Week consists of several online events aimed at discussing the environmental impact of AHP practices and why sustainability must be prioritised.
