The 2025 edition of the Diagnostic Workforce Census goes live on 1 May 2025, helping to collect accurate data on the shape of the profession

The 2025 Diagnostic Workforce Census is set to go live next month, and the SoR is calling upon radiology service managers to support efforts to understand the workforce.

On 1 May, the SoR’s Diagnostic Workforce Census will open for completion by members of the society. As a trade union and professional body, the SoR uses this data to inform, influence, and lobby for support and development in the profession.

Radiology service managers are being urged to complete the survey in order to help the SoR collect accurate, up-to-date information on the state of their departments and the workforce in general, to further the development of the profession.

'Shape the future of radiography'

Alexandra Lipton, professional officer for the SoR, said: “We would greatly appreciate your time in submitting a return. Now more than ever, it is essential that we collect accurate and up-to-date data.

“Your participation will help shape the future of radiography by informing the Society of Radiographers, workforce planners and education providers. Accurate data on the radiographic workforce is crucial for influencing policy-makers, especially in these challenging times when the importance of diagnostic imaging is widely recognised.”

Details of all staff in the career framework – from clinical support workers and assistant practitioners through to advanced and consultant practitioners – is required.

Radiology service managers

This census should be completed by the radiology services manager (or equivalent) for all diagnostic radiography services at your hospital/workplace. If you manage multiple sites, please provide one response for all. National independent or private healthcare providers may submit one response for all UK sites.

Members of the SoR will receive an email invitation to complete the census once it has gone live. If you do not receive it, if your contact details have changed or if you would like a copy of the questions ahead of completing the census, please get in touch with Alex Lipton via [email protected].

Participation in the survey is voluntary. Your answers will be treated confidentially, securely stored and the information you provide will not allow you to be identified in any research outputs/publications. Your data will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation 2016.
