The Society of Radiographers is asking for members to complete three surveys as part of a Modified Delphi study.
Coordinated by the University of Derby and Keele University, the study requires participants to commit to completing three online surveys between now and the end of February 2025.
The first survey is set to launch today (5 December). Each round is estimated to take around 30-40 minutes to complete. Data will be collected and analysed after each round.
The Modified Delphi study aims to influence how radiographers should assess pre-registration diagnostic radiography students in the future, regardless of their career route. As well as Society members, a range of radiography professionals - such as apprentices, clinical radiographers and academics - are also participating in the project.
Delphi studies use a multi-stage consensus process where individual opinions are collected and combined to form a group consensus. This study is a ‘Modified’ Delphi because it adds to the outcomes of the scoping stage of the standardisation project.
What are the project’s aims?
Specifically, the project has three main objectives, with the Delphi study being one of its final stages. The first - carrying out a systematic review of literature relating to clinical assessment tools in pre-registration - has been completed. A report on its findings was submitted to the SoR in September 2024.
The second stage has also been completed. This centred on assessing the status of current clinical assessment tools in pre-registration diagnostic radiography education.
With funding from the Workforce, Training and Education Directorate NHS England, the Society of Radiographers commissioned the project as part of the NHS England Professional Bodies Education Reform Commission.
A final report on the project is due by 15 March 2025.
