The surveys form part of a collaboration between the Society and King’s College London

The SoR has launched two new surveys to collect data from the workforce of support workers and their managers.

Each of the surveys was created as part of a collaboration between the Society and King’s College London, which is led by a radiography workforce expert group.

This partnership will see both bodies work to complete an NHS project designed to develop resources and information for those in the support workforce and their managers.

SoR's support worker survey encapsulates mammography associates and trainee mammography associates, assistant practitioners and trainee assistant practitioners and clinical support workers. The manager survey only applies to radiography service managers.

Who is eligible to take part?

Sue Johnson, the Society's professional officer for clinical imaging, is leading on the project. She said participation in the surveys is "crucial" in improving the experiences of support workers and their managers.

"We believe the support workforce in clinical imaging and radiotherapy has long been overlooked and undervalued," she explained. "The Society and College of Radiographers is now renewing its focus on highlighting the value that individuals in these roles bring to our services and to patients.

"Your input is crucial in shaping improvements for this important element of the radiographic workforce family."

She added that the aim of the surveys is to better understand the roles of support workers and service managers, as well as their career aspirations.

"We are eager to understand how we can best assist service leaders, as well as those in support and assistant roles, in having fulfilling and satisfying careers," she continued. "We invite all people working as radiographic assistants, radiotherapy assistants, assistant practitioners or in similar positions to participate in the surveys by sharing their valuable experiences and future aspirations.

"Additionally, we encourage service managers to contribute their insights as well."

Each survey takes 15 minutes to complete and must be submitted by 18 November. Participation is completely voluntary.
