The ballots to elect a Wales representative and a Northern representative on the SoR UK Council have closed, and the winners have been announced.
Amanda Evans, diagnostic radiographer and National Imaging Portfolio programme lead in The National Imaging Programme, has been won the election to the SoR’s UK Council as Wales representative alongside extant Wales rep Clive MacCallum-Roberts.
Nnaemeka Ugwu, MRI clinical lead radiographer, won the election unopposed for the Northern region representative seat.
In her election statement Ms Evans, a Health and Care Professions Council-registered diagnostic radiographer, expressed her thanks to SoR members in Wales for giving her the opportunity to represent Wales on the SoR UK Council.
“I look forward to feeding back via Welsh Council and the local reps about the work that is ongoing,” she added.
For the past 36 years, Ms Evans has worked in three of the health boards across Wales in roles including service improvement, education and management, as well as previously working in the independent sector. She is currently National Imaging Portfolio Programme Lead in The National Imaging Programme as part of the NHS Wales Executive.
Ms Evans has also been a learning rep, a member of Welsh Council and indeed previously a Wales representative on UK Council, as well as a member of the Delegates Conference Committee.
She said: “I believe that this is an opportune time for me to stand again as Wales representative as within my current role I am in a unique position having constant communications with all radiology across Wales. This is via a variety of channels and meetings and consequently am acutely aware of the pressures we face within the NHS in Wales.
“I’m keen to ensure that the differences we encounter as a devolved nation are well represented at UK council, including how radiographers are under the umbrella of Health Care Scientists in Wales and how the Diagnostic Transformation Strategy is outlining the strategic direction within Wales.”
Outside of her day job, Ms Evans said she could usually be found pitch side watching a game of football or walking her greyhound.

Northern region representative Nnaemeka Ugwu has previously served as a Council Observer, which he said gave him an understanding of the society’s inner workings.
In his election statement, Mr Ugwu said: “I understand how to work with people and how to lead a team to achieve a desired goal. I am a forward thinking and excellent-minded person, who puts the needs of people before mine. I am committed to service and dedicated to leadership.
“I am confident that if elected as a rep for the Northern region, I shall represent the interest of all my colleagues within the region at the Council level. Representing the region will further broaden my perspective of the society and in turn strengthen my leadership skills further.”
He added that he looks forward to contributing to the long term success of the SoR by demonstrating exemplary leadership and inclusive representation.
Mr Ugwu added: “I shall take these steps to be involved and dedicated to the UK council:
“Thank you so much for your continued support.”
