Sonographer input needed for the SoR Ultrasound Census

Help shape the future of sonographer regulation by sharing your insights in the SoR 2024 Ultrasound Census

Published: 02 December 2024 Ultrasound

The Society of Radiographers (SoR) is calling on sonographer managers across the NHS and independent sectors to participate in the 2024 ultrasound census.

This updated census aims to gather accurate workforce data to support policy development and strengthen the case for statutory sonographer regulation.

Sonographer regulation has become a key focus

Gill Harrison, SoR professional officer for ultrasound said:  "The need for robust data has never been more pressing. With the Professional Standards Authority's recent assessment of the Register of Clinical Technologists, momentum is building for sonographer regulation. This updated census, with additional questions, is designed to address workforce planning needs and inform policy-making."

The insights gained will enable the SoR to provide evidence-based recommendations and continue lobbying to ensure the sonographer workforce is adequately supported and regulated.

About the survey

The survey will run from Sunday 1st December until Tuesday 31st December 2024.

The SoR encourages sonographer managers to share their experiences, highlight challenges, and showcase good practices through the census. Input from both NHS and independent providers is crucial for fulfilling PSA requirements and shaping the future of sonographer practice.

The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. If you prefer to collate the data beforehand, you can download our PDF of the survey questions.
