Prof Marcel Van Herk, Chair in Radiotherapy Physics at the University of Manchester and The Christie, will be delivering the British Society for the History of Radiology (BHSR) annual lecture 2025.
On 3 February, Prof van Herk’s lecture will combine his expertise in developing advanced techniques used in oncology care with his hobby of restoring old computers, to provide a very personal history of radiotherapy.
Covering developments since the arrival of the EMI CT scanner in the 1970s, to current cutting-edge techniques including MRI-guided radiotherapy and big data analysis, the presentation will focus on the role of imaging and image processing in this ever-evolving field.
Featuring a live demonstration of the landmark 1972 Data general Nova1200 computer, this talk will appeal to anyone with an interest in radiotherapy or radiology and will be a particular treat for IT enthusiasts.
Admission to this lecture is free but please register by contacting email Dr Arpan Banerjee: [email protected].
