The Health and Care Professionals Council has published an updated version of its standards of conduct, performance and ethics, the first revision since 2008.
The new standards have been a work in progress since 2012, taking in feedback from registrants, educators, employers and service users.
The revised standards contain a number of key changes, including:
• A new standard about reporting and escalating concerns about the safety and wellbeing of service users (standard 7).
• A new standard about being open and honest when things go wrong (standard 8).
• Changes to the structure of the standards to improve their accessibility.
• Guidance on the use of social networking sites (standard 2).
Each registrant will receive a physical copy of the standards in the post, but you can also read them online here.
The new standards will come into effect immediately.
Charlotte Beardmore, the SCoR director of professional policy, said, “It is important that radiographers read and consider the implications of the revised HCPC standards of conduct, performance and ethics.
“They must be adhered to and should be considered together with the Society and College’s Code of Professional Conduct."
